Sir Edward Byrne AC is the fourth President of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), appointed in 2024 after leading King’s College London and Monash University. A neurologist and distinguished academic leader, he has held senior roles at the University College London, the Australian National University, and major healthcare organizations, including as Global Chief Medical Advisor for Ramsay Health Care Group. Knighted in 2020 for services to higher education, Sir Edward has been recognized internationally for his pioneering research in mitochondrial diseases and his efforts to strengthen global collaboration in science and education. He is a Fellow of multiple Royal Colleges of Physicians and holds numerous honorary degrees and awards for his contributions to medicine and academia.
