Biography

Prof. Osman M. Bakr is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Associate Vice President of Research at KAUST, as well as Executive Editor of ACS Materials Letters. He earned his B.Sc. from MIT and Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University. His research focuses on the design and synthesis of hybrid organic–inorganic semiconductors and quantum materials for applications in renewable energy and sensing. As the founder of Quantum Solutions, a KAUST spin-off, he helped pioneer affordable short-wave infrared imaging technologies that are transforming industries from energy monitoring to remote sensing. His achievements have earned him prestigious honors, including the Kroll Medal, the Kuwait Prize, and Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researcher designation in Materials Science and Chemistry.
